Why I Was Born

My Past, Current, and Future

The last blog talked about personality traits you had when you were born and explored some of the personality traits you had when you were a baby?some of us ask why we were born. The exercise, from the previous blog, touched upon exploring some of your temperaments as a baby.

We explored through journaling, having conversations with God, reading the bible, and prayer.

There are four types of temperaments called sanguine, choleretic, phlegmatic, and melancholic.

The Four Types of Temperaments

Sanguine falls under the category of an extrovert. The meaning of sanguine is optimistic or positive, especially in an apparently bad or difficult situation. This type of temperament marks someone who is playful, outspoken, sociable, easygoing, outwardly focused, to name a few.

I have been around a lot of people who fall under this type of temperament.

Choleric also falls under the extrovert category. The meaning of choleric is easily moved to often unreasonable or excessive anger: hot-tempered, a perpetually choleric old grouser. 2: angry, irate a choleric outburst. This type of temperament marks someone who is typically goal-oriented and ambitious. They are leaders, short-tempered, expressive, confident, and forceful, to name a few.

Phlegmatic falls under the introvert category. The meaning of phlegmatic (of a person) is having an unemotional and stolidly calm disposition. This type of temperament marks someone who is inwardly focused, easygoing, balanced, steady, enjoys life on their own terms, to name a few. This is interesting because it is associated with reflection.

Melancholic falls under the introvert category as well. Its definition is relating to, or subject to melancholy: depressed. 2: of or relating to melancholia. 3: tending to depress the spirits: saddening. This is contradictory to the research on google stating that a melancholic personality leads to self-reliant individuals who are thoughtful, reserved, and often anxious. They often strive for perfection within themselves and their surroundings, which leads to tidy and detail-oriented behavior. Furthermore, the temperament is artistic, analytical, organized, and means they have close friendships.

I fall into the category of phlegmatic, melancholic (minus the depressing spirit or saddening) & some of choleric. My temperament has been steady throughout my life, from birth to now. However, throughout my adulthood, there have been some changes. We spoke about how I was as a newborn; I did what most babies do? eat, sleep and cry, and I made my mom?s life easy peasy. As for my toddler years, it did not change at all. It remained the same. My mother never had any trouble with me. I was good, obedient, and well-behaved, and my mom wanted to communicate this to me. My mom did not have to yell, scream or tell me over and over to do something. When she told me to clean up after I finished playing with my toys, she would say, ?TT, when you finish playing with your toys, put them away.? I would run back to her to let her know that I had put away my toys, and she would always say, ?good girl.? As you can see, my temperament and personality were developing stronger and steadily. Let?s pause here for a minute. As I started to find the answer of why I was born, I began to think of the personality traits I had and how they help others. We were born for a purpose, but that is another blog topic. I am an introvert and have developed so of the extrovert characteristics, but it is temporary.

So far:

?     My mother had a blessed experience - first-time mom - (Calmness)

?     My mother never had to tell me not to do anything repeatedly - (Obedience)

?     I cried when left with family or friends (Slow to warm up, reserved, needed time to trust)

?     Slept a lot (Reflection, refreshed, forgiveness)

I know that God created me to have these temperaments to be a blessing to others throughout my life, besides my mom and my dad. These people include those close to me, those I?ve known briefly, and those I have touched who I never knew that I did. It doesn?t matter who; I know that being the woman that I am now is to help lives along the way.
